In 2021, her documentary short film, JOSIE, received First Place Award and the Audience Choice award at the Plaza Classic Film Festival. She went on to direct and produce Ome Tlaloc: Ceremonial Tattoos through the REEL South PBS program and is continuing to direct and produce more films. She commercially works as a producer, editor, and assistant director. As a borderland and Mexican-American woman, Mariana explores the shapes and forms of identities that emerge from the duality of binational experiences. Mariana was a 2022 fellow recipient for Femme Frontera x Sundance Institute’s Film Laboratory and has earned five best documentary awards for her co-direction of La Bi-vencia. She is currently working on developing her interactive digital magazine The Doc Method. Having worked extensively in the nonprofit sector to support independent filmmakers, Seth’s approach to producing is deeply collaborative and invested in fostering community, sustainability, and supporting emerging filmmakers. Ponce is a fellow at Cine Qua Non Lab, Latino Screenwriting Project, Sundance/WIF Financing Intensive, Film Independent Fast Track as well as an artist resident at SFFILM FilmHouse. She has experience in volunteer work and educational programming, but her most recent position is at the National Young Farmers Coalition in fundraising. Her work emerges from a deep need to tell what has been silenced. She experienced loss firsthand, including the death of her best friend in an attack, and came to understand art as both refuge and response. In documentary filmmaking, she found a tool to transform the intimate into a collective act. Her stories aim to decentralize the gaze of Mexican cinema and reveal a border that is alive, complex, and poetic. She chose to remain and create from her territory because she believes in its power. During the first years of her career, she focused on research of Design and obtained a Master's Degree in Design and Innovation at the Autonomous University of Querétaro. In 2019 she started working at FabLab Juarez, a digital manufacturing laboratory where she developed projects combining art and technology. That same year, she began working on film projects as an associate producer for "América Asimetrica" directed by Rodolfo Wox Rincones, where she developed the production binder for funding on several grants. She also worked for "Cenicero De Dios" directed by Celina Galicia as a production assistant and for "Los años de Otto" directed by Persia Campbell in the art department. She has also worked on different music videos as a director and producer. During the pandemic, she had the urgency to develop her personal creative side and "Creadora Studio" was born, an art and design studio focused on stained glass, mirror, mosaic and art framing techniques. At the same time she’s generating didactic workshops where he teaches the main techniques used in the art of glass. In 2018 Silvia's short film, Ocean, won a jury prize at the Laredo International Media & Film Festival. Silvia’s debut feature film, Hummingbirds, is a collaborative self-portrait directed by them and Estefanía Contreras. Their work is supported by Ford Foundation JustFilms, Field of Vision, Arts2Work, Threshold Fund, Sundance Documentary Fund, SFFILM, and Chicken & Egg Pictures, among others. Silvia has represented Hummingbirds as a 2021 NBCU Original Voices Fellow, a 2021 Sundance/WIF Financing Intensive Fellow, a 2021 Points North/LEF Fellow, a 2022 BAVC MediaMaker Fellow, and a 2022-2024 Firelight Documentary Fellow.
